| Manager Praises the Players (04/05/08) Manager Pete Shuttleworth has praised the players for their efforts in keeping the club up this season. 'The players have been great since I took over in November. There attitudes have been first class and despite a sticky spell earlier this year, they have shown what they are capable of achieving in the last 6 games of the season. There has been a great team spirit and the big characters in the changing room have kept chins up even when results were going against us, and to finish the season with 3 wins in a row, 2 of which against Winterton and Liversedge was an outstanding achievement' Pete also had praise for the new signings, 'The impact that Dean Short, Ady Hall and Phil Austin made at the back end of the season shouldn't be underestimated. As well as producing some excellent displays on the pitch, they all added loads to the dressing room and it has made some of the other players come out of their shells'. And the manager also had praise for the award winners at the clubs presentation night, ' I would like to congratulate all the award winners for their achievements this season. In particular, Gavin Saxby has been outstanding this season. It was disappointing that he finished the season with an injury that kept him out as I know that he wanted to play all the games but he has done enough to show the Shirebrook people what a fantastic keeper he is. And Martin Rowbottom deserves great credit not only for this season but for his service to the football club. The club personality of the year award couldn't have gone to a more deserved winner' |

| Another New Signing (23/03/2008) The shake up of the current playing squad continued this week with the signing of Jonathan Jackson from Lincoln United, initially on a one month loan deal. Jonathan returned from university last year in Manchester and has played for Lincoln and Wakefield in the Unibond Premier. He can play anywhere across the back 4. Pete Shuttleworth added 'We are delighted to attract someone like Jonathan to the club. He has an undoubted caliber and we have beat a number of clubs to his signature. Great credit needs going to Mark (Hall) who has worked tirelessly over the last 2 weeks to bring new faces to the club and this is testament to his hard work. I am also hopeful there will be at least 3 or 4 new faces before the deadline next Monday (31st March) to add competition to the squad' Pete added ' I was delighted with the performance at Liversedge last Tuesday and the current squad have responded to the competition for places in a positive way. They fought for everything and got a point which I think they deserved. We have a big month ahead but I am confident that we have the players here to pick up enough points to stay up and then start looking forward to a better campaign next season' |

| New General Manager Announced (23/03/2008) Mark Hall has been confirmed as General Manager of the club. His role will involve structuring the club so that the First Team, Reserves, Under 19's and Academy Team (next year) can work to their full potential and move the club forward. Mark is also responsible for recruiting players and already in the last 2 weeks, 4 new players have been added to the playing squad. Pete Shuttleworth will continue as First Team Manager and will be assisted by Andy White for the foreseeable future. |

| 4 players in, more to follow? (14/03/08) Manager Pete Shuttleworth has made 4 new signings to his squad this week and there may be more to follow. Joining the club are Callum Wilkinson from Glapwell, Nathan Swindell and Adam Tyler from Lincoln United (Adam was also registered with Hallam) and Ady Hall from Forest Town. Nathan is a centre forward who was previously with Gainsborough before joining Lincoln and Adam is a midfielder who has had previous experience with Staveley. Both are joining on a 1 month loan arrangement with Lincoln United. Callum Wilkinson is a young centre forward who has been impressing with our Under 19's. He was signed in January by Glapwell but found first team opportunities hard to come by. Ady Hall is an experienced player who has played at Glapwell, Alfreton and a number of local clubs before plying his trade at Forest Town this season. He can play at centre half or in midfield. 'There has been a lot of hard work behind the scenes this week to bring some new faces to the club and I am delighted that we are able to introduce a couple of new faces for Saturday. The last 2 results and performances have been unacceptable and the players have been made aware of that. There are also a few more players who we have the option of bringing in next week and it is now up to the current players to show they have got the desire and the ability to play for Shirebrook Town. Results have got to change quickly' Leaving Langwith Road to make way for the new faces is Marc Sherlock who joined the club from Glapwell in November. He will be remembered for his winning goal against his previous club on Boxing Day. The manager added 'Unfortunately when you bring new faces to the club some of the existing players have to make way and this was the case with Marc. He is a smashing lad and has a great attitude but for one reason or another things haven't worked out for him at Shirebrook. I wish him all the best in football'. Squad for Armthorpe Gavin Saxby, Martin Rowbottom, Adam Yates, James Tagg, Tom Swan, Ady Hall, Matt Day, Adam Tyler, Ryan Cancellara, Adam Kimberley, Ben Cobbley, Rob Orton, Jamie Smith, Nathan Swindell |

Mark Hall enjoyed a fantastic playing career with Leicester City, Halifax Town, Oxford and Kettering Town before experiencing non-league with Denaby United and Belper Town. He then took on scouting and coaching roles at Sheffield United, Yeovil Town and Mansfield Town before having a couple of years out of the game. "I am delighted to have Mark on board. He is a great footballing guy and has a fantastic pedigree in the game. We have worked really hard over the last 2 weeks to make this happen as Mark was in no rush to get back into football. I have sold the club to him and the potential that is here and Mark believes that we can do good things together. He is a highly qualified coach and he knows football inside out and his experience will be be a massive benefit to this football club". said Pete. When I spoke to him about getting involved I could see he was keen to get back into it. | Managers Comments Brodsworth (12/1/08) Gavin Saxby, Martin Rowbottom, Lee Hunt, Adam Yates, Craig Shaw, Lee Naughton, Chris Rhodes, Jon Cullen, Ryan Cancellara, Ben Cobley, Max Northage, Rob Orton, Jamie Smith, Marc Sherlock We have a tricky month ahead, facing 5 away games against teams who are down towards the bottom of the table. It is vital that we pick up good points against these teams so that we don't get dragged back into the relegation fight. But it is important that we look positively and think that we are capable of taking maximum points from these games. The lads are fit and raring to go. The break last weekend allowed one or two to get there feet up and shake off knocks. We have had 2 excellent training sessions since the Long Eaton game and I get the feeling that the players are desperate to get out there and start winning football matches again. Lets hope we can build on the encouraging christmas that we had and continue to progress up the league table' |

It was suggested to him, after the operation, that he might not play again but Tot said "Ill play again, nobody's telling me what to do!" whilst shoveling a turkey dinner down him....................followed by some cobs, a cheese roll, some crisps and a can of coke. That's it Tot........keep your strength up!!! |

Tony Starkey (28/08/07) Tony Starkey hobbled off the pitch in yesterday's match at home against Brodsworth. He was left in some discomfort after challenging for a 50/50 ball with the Brodsworth No9 Ryan Malee. It was a perfectly fair challenge by both players and with the the ball having gone out of play, the game was restarted with a corner. In a very sporting gesture, Brodsworth took the corner and put the ball straight out of play for a goal kick. Initial reports from the hospital suggest that Tony has broken his ankle. The position of the break is a further complication and therefore a specialist has been called in. At this stage it is highly likely that he will require an operation which could take place today. Doctors have said that it will be a minimum of 6 weeks before he will be able to put a foot to the floor and even longer if an operation is required. I would like to wish Tot all the best from all at the club. |
